Betty Jane Scheer, age 84, of Mt.Sterling, passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at her residence.

She was born February 17, 1932 in Cass County, Illinois the daughter of William and Lena Huston Dickey.  She married Louis Bowers Scheer on July 23, 1950 and he preceded her in death on December 31, 2015. 

Mrs. Scheer served as Brown County Treasurer for 16 years, retiring in 1998.  Betty and Louis also owned and operated Scheer Cleaners in Clayton and then in Mt. Sterling for several years.

She attended Virginia, Illinois schools.

Mrs. Scheer was a member of the First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling.  Betty was also a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 Auxiliary, the Brown County Democrat Women and was active in supporting the American Cancer Society and Brown County Against Cancer.

Survivors include 3 sons Mike (wife Karen) Scheer of Sharard, Illinois, Roger (wife Jodie) Scheer of Beach Park, Illinois and Ted (wife Dana) Scheer of Mt. Sterling.  1 brother Jim Dickey of Cedar Bluff, Alabama.  9 grandchildren.  2 step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews and her beloved caregiver Cindi Sorrells of Mt. Sterling. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Homer Dickey, Vernon Dickey and 1 brother in infancy and 1 sister Martha McDaniel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Aaron Foster officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.   Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer.
