Charles Arthur McClelland, age 93, a resident of Villa Health Care East in Sherman, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling passed away at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born March 18, 1923 in Brown County, Illinois the son of William Arthur and Emma Gesina Saxer McClelland.  He married Mary Jeanette Lipcaman on June 4, 1944 at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Mt. Sterling and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2016. 

Mr. McClelland was a retired farmer and later in life had worked for Roe Food Service in Mt. Sterling for several years.

He graduated from Macomb High School.

Mr. McClelland was a member of the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include 2 children Charles L. McClelland (Sharon) of Mt. Sterling and Dianne DeRosa (Richard) of Springfield, Illinois.  7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Dan McClelland, 3 sisters Ruth McClelland in infancy, Helen Phillips and Wilma Bean and 1 brother Herman McClelland.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.

Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery in Hersman, Illinois.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer.
