John S. “Acey” Porter, age 59, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and formerly of Mesquite, Texas passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at his residence.

He was born October 3, 1957 in San Diego, California the son of James and Anna Marie Blaylock Porter.  He married Cindy S. Perry on October 5, 1996 in Hawesville, Kentucky and she survives.

Mr. Porter worked as a project superintendent in the construction industry for many years with TIC Industrial Company.

He graduated from Mesquite, Texas high school.   

Mr. Porter proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Sergeant.

Acey enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing and he especially loved solving all the world’s problems with his friends at the Sportsman’s Club.

Survivors include his wife Cindy Porter of Mt. Sterling.  His father James Porter of Mesquite, Texas.  5 children Brandalyn Porter (Cliff) of Garland, Texas, twin sons Ryan (Stephanie) and Shane Porter all of Gun Barrell City, Texas, Tiffany Porter of Crandall, Texas and Stacy Evans (David) of Forney, Texas.  4 brothers Michael Porter (Grace) of Celeste, Texas, Jeff Porter of Springfield, Missouri, Tim Porter of Dallas, Texas and Darrin Porter (Makayla) of Mesquite, Texas.  11 grandchildren Lexi, Taylor, Jordyn, Randi, Peyton, Macy, Cameron, Gracie, James, Tatum and Aryn also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and 1 brother Jerry Porter.

Per his request, cremation will be accorded and there will be no services at this time.

Memorials are suggested to the Great River Honor Flight and may be left at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
