John Donald "Don" Schreieck

John Donald “Don” Schreieck, age 84, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 3:12 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

He was born April 2, 1933 in Valley Stream Long Island, New York the son of John and Ruth Huston Schreieck.  He married Patricia Worley on October 11, 1989 in Carlinville, Illinois and she survives.

Mr. Schreieck worked as a cook for many different restaurants in both New York and Illinois.

He was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Army.

Don was a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.  He loved being outdoors and enjoyed gardening and fishing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Schreieck of Mt. Sterling.  7 children Theresa Palmieri of New York, Roseann Hiebert of Bayonne, New Jersey, Linda Thaxton (David) of Brighten, Illinois, Bonnie McGuire (Jim) of Brighton, Illinois, Jason Schreieck (Dolores) of Beardstown, Illinois, Emily Davidson (Ross) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Matthew Schreieck (Ashley) of Versailles, Illinois.  16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Herbert, Robert and Richard Schreieck and 2 sisters Deloris Edmunds and Jackie Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Matt Haberman officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery.  A military service will be conducted at the graveside.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.  Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
