Jon Robert Pool, age 69, of Chambersburg, Illinois passed away at 7:53 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born September 23, 1946 in Jacksonville, Illinois the son of Robert Edward and Phyllis Nadine Perry Pool.  38 years after graduating he married his high school sweetheart, Jolene Schneider on November 7, 2003 in Pittsfield, Illinois and she survives.

Jon was a renaissance man who was multi-talented and had held many positions over the years including being a certified sous chef from Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, served as a college recruiter for Culver-Stockton College and was also engaged in farming.  Later Jon worked for the State of Illinois and was known as a technology specialist to his family and friends.

He attended Chambersburg schools and graduated from Meredosia-Chambersburg High School with the class of 1964.  Jon later graduated from Culver Stockton College in 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. 

Mr. Pool was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany.

Jon was a true nature lover who always enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and trapping.  He also looked forward to spending his winters in Texas with his wonderful friends known as “the Carlton Group”.

Survivors include his wife Jolene Pool of Chambersburg.  2 children Jason Robert Pool of St. Petersburg, Florida and Roberta Ann Pool of Peoria, Illinois.  1 brother Jack Pool (Margo) of Mt. Sterling also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.  Military honors will be provided by the Inter Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. 

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Lung Association and may be left at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
