Mabel Beatrice Alsup, age 99, a resident of Lavender Ridge in Jacksonville, Illinois and formerly of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 10:37 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the nursing home.

She was born October 11, 1917 in Macon County, Illinois the daughter of Chester Arthur and Lilly May Thatcher Hanes.  She married Floyd Alsup on July 6, 1935 and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1991.

Mrs. Alsup was a homemaker and was a partner along with her husband on the operation of the family farm.

She graduated from Warrensburg, Illinois High School as the valedictorian of her class. 

Mrs. Alsup was a member of the Versailles Christian Church and always enjoyed traveling with her husband.

Survivors include 3 children Gloria Harris (Ray) of Marshalltown, Iowa, Richard Alsup (Marilyn) of Versailles, Illinois and Karen Ehlert (Eldred) of Meredosia, Illinois.  8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren also survive along with 14 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter Peggy Keeley, 1 son Thomas Alsup, 1 great grandson Alex Newman, 1 great great grandson Cooper Mueller, 2 brothers Jacob and Everett Hanes and 3 sisters Edna Reiterman, Dorothy Bowers and Grace Hanes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Richard Harre officiating.  

Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer or the Hersman Cemetery Association.
