Marguerite Elizabeth Schneider, age 88, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2017 at her residence.

She was born April 25, 1928 in Pea Ridge Township in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Charles W. and Eulalia Fitzsimons Nolan.  She married Charles John Schneider on January 10, 1953 at St. Mary’s Church in Mt Sterling and he preceded her in death on October 29, 1964.

Mrs. Schneider worked for 30 years at the Farmers State Bank & Trust Co. in Mt. Sterling retiring as trust officer in 1983. 

She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1946 and then graduated from Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois in 1947.

Mrs. Schneider was a devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling where she served in numerous capacities including as a member of both the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Alter Society.

Marguerite truly loved Brown County and served the community in many ways including as a member of the Brown County Board, served on several committees for St. Mary’s School and Holy Family Catholic Church, served on the boards of Brown County Youth Baseball, Brown County Chapter of American Cancer Society, United Way, Brown County Democrat Women,  Rolling Greens Golf Club, West Central Area Agency on Aging, the Office of Social Concerns for the Diocese of Springfield, West Central Mass Transportation District, and the Brown County Board of Review.  She also served as secretary/treasurer for the Wednesday afternoon ladies bowling league, was a Cub Scout leader and was a hospice volunteer for over 14 years.    Marguerite always enjoyed music, reading, traveling, sports and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.  She truly loved time spent with her family and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s many school activities.

Survivors include 3 children Robert Charles Schneider (Linda) of Toulon, Illinois, Catherine Schneider of Chicago, Illinois and Christine Buss (Dana) of Clayton, Illinois.  11 grandchildren Jessica Listwan (Steven), Megan Smith (Zack), Melissa Nelson (Nate), Stephanie Manning (Joel) Mark Schneider (Kelly), Stephen Schneider, Janine Schneider and Charles, Michael, Kelly and Danielle Buss.  18 great grandchildren Cadence, Haven, West Jason, Avery, Caralee and Ariana Manning, Ramsey, Gemma and Roxanna Listwan, Eve, Nolle, Selena and Nora Nelson, Cheyenh, Dusti, Jackson, Sedona and Asher Smith.  3 sisters Norma Koch (Charles), Marilyn Wort (James), Agnes Redmond (Richard).  1 brother Thomas Nolan (Judy).  2 sisters-in-law Ruth M. Nolan and Marilyn Mating and 2 brothers-in-law Thomas and William Schneider also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother Robert Nolan.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Steve Thompson officiating. 

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.  A rosary service and a nocturnal adoration society prayer service will be conducted at the conclusion of the visitation.  Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary’s School or Brown County Against Cancer.
