Mrs. Marian Virginia Wagner, age 95, a resident of Heritage Health in Jacksonville, Illinois formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 1:40 a.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois.
She was born December 23, 1922 in New Canton, Illinois the daughter of Arthur and Sylvia Pearl Hughes Sims. She married Casper L. Wagner on January 10, 1940 in Palmyra, Missouri and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1987.
Mrs. Wagner was a homemaker and assisted her husband with the operation of the family farm.
She attended Pike County Schools and was a member of the Timewell Baptist Church.
Marian was also a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Idelle Rebekah Lodge #7 where she served in several offices. She also enjoyed volunteering for Meals Plus at the Mt. Sterling Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include 2 children Karen Saxer (John) of Versailles, Illinois and Louis E. Wagner (Mary) of Rogersville, Missouri. 2 sisters June Anderson (Warren) of Quincy, Illinois and Christine Stewart (Richard) of Camp Point, Illinois. 6 grandchildren Rachel Saxer, Virginia “Ginnie” Anderson (Jerry), Joe Saxer (Patti), Ed Wagner (Fiancé, Michelle Becker), E. J. Jones and Cassie Jones. 9 great grandchildren Darci Samuel (Ron), Wesley Anderson, Cassi Ruyle, Cydny Saxer, Carmyn Saxer, Raymond Anderson (Wendy), Karlie Kelly (Daniel), Valarie Black and Kloey Black also survive along with 7 great great grandchildren Dominik Samuel, Vincent Samuel, Savanna Anderson, Kylei Anderson, Erik Anderson, Konstance Kelly and Kendrick Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers Calvin and Coolidge Sims and 4 sisters Irene Ackers, Frances Howlet, Marcell Mayfield-Ackers and Rosalie Mendenhall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Dale Gadberry officiating.
Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Hersman Cemetery or the Timewell Baptist Church.
