Martina Leona Darnell, age 83, of Quincy, Illinois and formerly of Brown County, passed away at 3:02 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born January 31, 1934 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Homer and Pearl Evelyn Cory Newton.  She married Junior Vernon Darnell on July 1, 1967 in the Benville Union Church in Brown County and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2001. 

Mrs. Darnell worked for Motorola in Quincy for several years. 

She attended Benville Grade School and Mt. Sterling High School.

Mrs. Darnell was a lifelong member of the Benville Union Church.

Martina never had children of her own, but truly enjoyed being a loving caregiver to her many nieces and nephews, whom she helped raise anyway she could.

Survivors include 1 brother Lyle Newton (Margo) of Mt. Sterling.  2 nieces, 2 nephews, 2 great nieces and 4 great nephews also survive along with 2 great great nephews and 1 great great niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister Rosalie Davidson.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Laura Simmons officiating.

Burial will be in the Benville Cemetery in Brown County.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Benville Union Church.
