Mary Margaret Bullard, age 89, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care in Quincy, Illinois.
She was born August 12, 1928 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois the daughter of Harry and Eva Ashbaker Shields. She married John William Bullard on April 10, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on November 15, 2004.
Mrs. Bullard worked for many years at the Brown County Office of the Illinois Department of Public Aid, retiring as superintendent. Earlier in life, Mary Margaret along with her husband owned and operated the Hornet Nest Drive Inn in Mt. Sterling.
She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy with the class of 1946 and later attended John Wood Community College.
Mrs. Bullard was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. Mary Margaret was also a member of the Illinois Chapter A.I. of the TTT, the 20th Century Club and the Holy Family Ladies Guild. She always enjoyed serving as a boy scout leader, girl scout leader and as a baseball team mom.
Survivors include 2 children John Michael Bullard of Mt. Sterling and Vicki Lois Luther (Steven) of Atlanta, Georgia. 1 grandson Stevie Luther of Charleston, South Carolina. 1 sister Barbara Knowles of Brookfield, Missouri also survives along with her loving pet, Holli and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, twin daughters in infancy, 1 sister Jeanette Ellison and her step-father Raymond Lehne.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Steve Thompson and Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Unity Point Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
