Regina Ann “Jeannie” Leenerts, age 79, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 3:32 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
She was born January 29, 1937 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois the daughter of Howard E. and Loretta C. Koch O’Connell. She married Robert Ray Quincy on October 7, 1957 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and he preceded her in death on November 23, 1972. She later married Dale Allen Leenerts on March 9, 1974 in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on January 22, 2013.
Mrs. Leenerts was a homemaker and had also worked as a telephone operator in Mt. Sterling in the 1960’s. She then owned and operated Jeannie’s Café in Mt. Sterling for several years and had also worked for Methode Electronics in Golden, Illinois, the Brown County Supervisor of Assessment’s office and for the Mt. Sterling Community Center Y.M.C.A.
Mrs. Leenerts was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy with the class of 1955. Jeannie always enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include 5 children Jeri Quincy (Kenneth Tanner), Teri Huston (Mike), Debbie Kemper (Carl) all of Mt. Sterling, Diane DeJaynes of Camp Point, Illinois and Chad Leenerts (Michelle) of Griggsville, Illinois. 2 brothers Dick O’Connell of Wisconsin and Gary O’Connell of Indianapolis, Indiana. 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Michael Leenerts, 1 great granddaughter Bella Huston and 2 brothers Donald and David O’Connell.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Steve Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. A prayer service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at the conclusion of the visitation. Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer or Holy Family Catholic Church.
