Robert Lee “Bob” Patton, age 89, of Timewell, Illinois passed away at 1:55 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his residence.

He was born December 17, 1927 in Fargo, Illinois the son of Robert S. and Ida Mae Davis Patton.  He married Mary Eloise Bridgewater on December 17, 1949 at the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church Parsonage and she survives.

Bob attended Brown County Schools and graduated from Mt. Sterling High School with the class of 1945.

Mr. Patton started working at a young age for A. C. Perry Elevator; he then worked for O. L. Bemis Trucking and for Clyde Cutforth at the Timewell Elevator.  In 1963 Bob started driving a truck for Dot Foods in Mt. Sterling, retiring from full time driving in 1992, then driving part time until 2011when he officially retired at the age of 83.  He was very proud of the fact that he had driven over 3,000,000 miles, accident free.

Mr. Patton was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the United States Army.  Bob was a tank driver, small arms instructor and chauffer for the Captain.  He was seriously injured in a jeep accident and spent a year recovering in Valley Forge General Veteran’s Hospital in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

Bob was a member of the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church.   He was also a member of the Mt. Sterling American Post Legion Post #374, a past member of Timewell American Legion Post # 1054, Hardin Lodge No. 44 A.F. & A.M., a past member of Kendrick Lodge in Timewell, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine of Springfield, Illinois, Quincy Shrine Club, National Rifle Association and the Brown County Farm Bureau.  Bob also served as a board member of the Mounds Cemetery Association for several years.  

Survivors include his wife Mary Eloise Patton of Timewell.  3 children James L. Patton (Mary) of Timewell, Mary M. Beckman (Chuck) of Columbus, Illinois and David A. Patton of Timewell.  1 brother Richard Patton (Rosalie) of Mt. Sterling.  6 grandchildren Matt Logsdon, Sara Bartz, Justin Patton, Jared Patton, Austin Patton and Blake Patton.  5 great grandchildren Kruse Logsdon, Conner Bartz, Cason Bartz, Jayden Patton and Brinlee Patton also survive along with 1 nephew Marty Patton and Bob was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his 6th great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter in infancy and two nephews Mike and Mark Patton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Matt Haberman and Pastor Angel Rosales officiating. 

Burial will be in the Mounds Cemetery near Timewell, Illinois.   A military service will be conducted at the graveside.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening in the funeral home.    Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church or Unity Point at Home Hospice.
