Shirlene Wallace, age 64, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and formerly of Bridgeport, Connecticut passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the home of her brother in Mt. Sterling.

She was born August 28, 1952 in Greelyville, South Carolina the daughter of Harold and Thelma Ree McClary Gadson. 

Shirlene worked for over 20 years at Stop and Shop Grocery Stores in Connecticut. 

She graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut and then attended Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. 

Shirlene was known as a hard worker who enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, and she truly loved cooking meals for her family and friends.

Survivors include 7 children Harun Wallace, Hakim Wallace, Ameenah Wallace, Muhammed Rasheed, Thelma Owen, Sarah Newkirk and Melody Wallace all of Connecticut. 8 brothers Dr. Michael Gadson of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Lionel Gadson of Nashville, Tennessee, Christopher Gadson of Glendale, Arizona, Willie Oliver III of Oakland, California, Vernon Oliver of Portland, Connecticut, Eddie, Jessie and  Sylvester Oliver all of Birmingham, Alabama.  5 sisters Debra Gadson Thomas of Mountain Home, Idaho, Bernadine Wilson of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Alice Gadson Carson of Bridgeport, Connecticut and Marie and Rita Oliver both of Birmingham, Alabama.  2 aunts Barbara Ann Rogers and Hattie McClary both of North Carolina.  1 uncle Henry McClary of Virginia also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter Vera Wallace in infancy and 2 brothers Harry Lee Gadson and Willie Oliver, Jr.

Per her request, cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017 in the Timewell Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Gadberry officiating.
