Warren Thomas “Levi” Leverton, age 83, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and formerly of Peoria, Illinois passed away at 4:06 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born January 21, 1934 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Samuel H. and Jessie B. Thomas Leverton.  He married Barbara K. Addy on December 16, 1956 in Peoria, Illinois and she preceded him in death on February 29, 2000. 

Mr. Leverton retired as a general yard master for Peoria and Pekin Union Railroad Company having worked for the railroad for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. 

He attended Ferndale School in Brown County.

Mr. Leverton was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Army.

Warren always enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include 5 children Brenda Kay Kinney of Tonopah, Nevada, Robin R. Cox of Hanna City, Illinois, Toni R. Hoyle of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Tina Andrews (Kevin) of Morton, Illinois and Randy Thomas “Bud” Leverton of Manito, Illinois. 

2 sisters Carolyn Stone of East Peoria, Illinois and Dolly Delicath of California.  10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 daughters Patty Lynn Leverton and Tammy Jo Magnuson, 5 sisters Martha Ann Leverton,Margie Ford, Bonnie Reiter, Grace Eggers and Betty Moreland and 5 brothers Frank, Hugh, Charles, Billy and Donnie Leverton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. 

Burial will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.  

Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
