William Francis “Bill” Saxbury, age 65, of Clayton, Illinois and formerly of Versailles, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at his residence.
He was born January 16, 1951 in Pittsfield, Illinois the son of Ben J. and Eva Delores Ryan Saxbury. He married Beverly Ann Patterson on December 17, 1971 in New Canton, Illinois and she survives.
Mr. Saxbury worked for the Village of Versailles Water and Street Department for many years. He also earlier worked for Electric Wheel in Quincy and for several area John Deere Dealerships.
Mr. Saxbury attended West Pike schools. He was a charter member of the Versailles Lions Club. Bill was a true nature lover who always enjoyed hunting, fishing and competing in mud slings. He was also an avid NASCAR and Sprint Car fan.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Ann Saxbury of Clayton. 4 children Heather Frisbie (John) of Quincy, Little Bill Saxbury (Nicole) of Clayton,Brook Saxbury of Versailles and Les Welty (Heidi) of Mt. Sterling. 8 grandchildren William, John, Jr. and Andrew Frisbie, Tanner (Cassi) and Hailey McElfresh, Liam and Konner Saxbury and Paige Welty. 3 brothers Galen Saxbury (Debbie) of St. James, Missouri, Kent Saxbury (Dorene) of New Canton, Illinois and Jan Saxbury (Brenda) of Clayton. 3 sisters Carol Chaplin (Bill) of Hannibal, Missouri, Charis Strubinger (Bob) of Liberty and Dawn Landers of St. James, Missouri also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 daughter Miki.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Greg Hill officiating.
Burial will be in the Versailles West Side Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
