Richard Patton Obituary

Richard Allen “Dick” Patton, age 92, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 4:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. 

He was born April 13, 1932 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Robert S. and Ida Mae Davis Patton.  He married Rosalie Ann Howard on June 14, 1957 in the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2023.  

Dick worked for Sears as a service technician for 31 years, retiring in 1991.  

He graduated from Mt. Sterling High School with the class of 1950.  

Mr. Patton then served his country in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954, primarily stationed in Germany.  

He was a member of the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374 for over 65 years.  After his retirement, Dick also enjoyed restoring old tractors.  

Survivors include five grandchildren, Jesse Patton (Brandi) of Macomb, Illinois, Kari Chin (Daniel) of Cortland, Illinois, Rachel O’Keefe (Korey) of Hopedale, Illinois and Breyden and Liam Patton both of Mt. Sterling, Illinois.  Eleven great grandchildren Cora, Caleb, Evelyn, Elianna and Christopher Chin, Isaiah, Andrew and Emily Patton and Jacob, Silas and Oliver O’Keefe also survive along with several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons Michael, Mark and Marty Patton and one brother Robert Patton. 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with his grandson, Jesse Patton officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Mounds Cemetery near Timewell, Illinois.  Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.  

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home. 

Memorials are suggested to Operation Smile or the Great River Honor Flight.
