Christopher David Wort, age 57, of Quincy, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling passed away at 12:56 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at his residence.
He was born December 6, 1960 in Jacksonville, Illinois the son of James Joseph and Marilyn Ann Nolan Wort.
Chris was a self-employed mechanic and had also worked for Buford Ward Chevrolet in Quincy for over 25 years.
He attended St. Mary’s School in Mt. Sterling and graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1979.
Chris was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and had been recently attending the Grace Baptist Church in Quincy.
He enjoyed drag racing and was known to love anything that involved an engine. Chris was proud of the fact that he had worked for NASCAR where he was on the pit crew for several of the Busch Series teams, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his granddaughter, Haylee.
Survivors include his fiancée Kim French of Quincy, Illinois. His parents James J. and Marilyn Wort of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. 2 step children Ashley and Daniel French both of Quincy. 1 granddaughter Haylee French of Quincy, Illinois. 3 brothers Jerry Wort (Marcia) of Quincy, Illinois, Edward Wort (Laura) of St. Charles, Missouri and Jeff Wort of Beardstown, Illinois. 1 sister Beth Clark (Von) of Timewell, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews including Eric Wort, Kara Mshaiel (Hakeem), Kyle Wort (Brittany), Rob Wort and Nolan Clark also survive along with 1 great niece Addy Wort.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother Gregory Wort and his beloved dog Scooby.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Thomas Henseler and Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Haylee French Education Fund.
