DeLos Dean Ernest, age 72, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 11:10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2019 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born July 10, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Dean J. and Mary E. Burns Ernest. He married Jerri Lynn Barnett on January 31, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada and she survives.
Mr. Ernest was a salesman for several area companies. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and attended Cowley County Community College.
Mr. Ernest served his country in the United States Army National Guard and was currently serving as an alderman for the City of Mt. Sterling.
Dean was a true nature lover who always enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Jerri Lynn Ernest of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. 1 son Jeramie Ernest (Beth) of Montgomery, Illinois. 2 step children Joe Fry (Sharon) of Murphysboro, Illinois and Jennifer Stumpf (Paul) of St. Charles, Missouri. 2 sisters Dawn Hoffhines (Terry) of Overland Park, Kansas and Diane Welter (Darrell) of Ames, Iowa. 8 grandchildren Emma Grace and Mason Edward Ernest, Eli, Evelynn and Emmitt Fry and Nate, Emily and Frank Stumpf also survive along with his father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Rosie Barnett of Mt. Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per his request, cremation will be accorded and a celebration of life will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, May 15, 2019 at the family residence at 201 Springdale in Mt. Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be left at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
