Ernest Darrell “Ernie” Fluckey, Jr., age 72, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, passed away at 12:08 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

Ernie was born September 8, 1945 in Jacksonville, Illinois the son of Ernest D. Fluckey, Sr. and Betty Jane Cisco Fluckey.  He married Martha Henrick on September 7, 1968 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and she survives.  Ernie is also survived by four sons; Richard (Lori) of Hammond, Oregon, Timothy (Allison) of Sierra Madre, California, Daniel (Alma) of Lancaster, California and Douglas of Mt. Sterling.  4 grandchildren Dylan, Abbott, Madeline and Aaron Fluckey.  1 brother Michael (Sheila) Fluckey of Mt. Sterling.  2 sisters Ellen Jones of Mt. Sterling and Betty (Roger) McNeff of Timewell also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ernie attended Brown County Schools and was a graduate of Brown County High School where he was an outstanding athlete.  He also graduated from S. I. U. Carbondale with a degree in Industrial Technology.  Ernie was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.  He worked at Motorola, U. S. Gypsum and Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois and was later self-employed.  After retirement Ernie worked part time at Heritage Health in Mt. Sterling.  Ernie’s greatest joys were his family, golf and watching the St. Louis Cardinals win.

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Steve Thompson officiating.

Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois (MHCWI) Advocacy Group or the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
