Hubert Eugene “Greasy” Sides, age 90, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 3:49 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born September 14, 1927 in Versailles, Illinois the son of William Ray and Nina Louise Conrad Sides.  He married Dolores June Buss on September 3, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and she survives.

Mr. Sides retired as a Fuel Handling Foreman in 1990 from Central Illinois Public Service Company (CIPS) in Meredosia, Illinois after 39 years of service. 

He attended Hambaugh School in Brown County and graduated from Versailles High School with the class of 1944.

Mr. Sides served his country in the United States Army from January 1946 until he was honorably discharged on January 23, 1949. 

He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and was formerly a member of the Versailles Odd Fellows.  Hubert was dedicated to his community of Versailles and served his hometown in many capacities. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, who truly loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Dolores Sides of Versailles.  2 sons David Sides and Darin Sides (Kara) all of Versailles.  2 grandchildren Addison and Carson Sides.  1 brother Bryce Sides (Deanna) of Tucson, Arizona also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 son infancy.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Thomas Henseler, Father John Patrick Day and Father John Kennedy officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.  A military service will be conducted at the graveside.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.  A prayer service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation.  Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s School, Brown County Against Cancer or Versailles Genological and Historical Society.
