James Shoopman

James Patrick “Jim” Shoopman, age 59, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Fairfield, Illinois.

He was born October 10, 1959 in Beardstown, Illinois the son of Richard Allen and Jean Louise McCoy Shoopman.  He married Lynn Donohue in 1987 in the state of Washington and to this union two beautiful children were born.

Jim worked as a civil engineer for the City of Tumwater, Washington for several years and had also worked as a staff engineer for PAC Tech Engineering, Inc. of Tacoma, Washington. 

He graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1978 and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington. 

Survivors include two children, the loves of his life, Sierra Diane Shoopman and Reilly Chelan Shoopman both of Seattle, Washington.  His former wife, Lynn Shoopman of Olympia, Washington.  His mother, Jean Shoopman of Mt. Sterling, Illinois.  4 brothers Mac Shoopman (Donna) of Kampsville, Illinois, Ed Shoopman (Cindy) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Joe Shoopman (Diane) of Mooresville, Indiana and George Shoopman (Lesa) of Kiln, Mississippi.  5 sisters Jill Perry of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Bev Shoopman of Hornbrook, California, Fran Parker of Jacksonville, Illinois, Joan Tracy (Tom) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Peggy Berry of Versailles, Illinois also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and 1 niece Liberty Shoopman.

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Matt Haberman officiating.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday in the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Mental Health Activity Fund.
