Lewis Glenn Ransom, age 74, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 10:38 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born March 5, 1944 in Beardstown, Illinois the son of Ernest G. and Thelma Allyne Lewis Ransom. He married Judith Schuessler on August 4, 1968 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Illinois and she survives.
Mr. Ransom worked for Oscar Mayer, Excel and Cargill in Beardstown, Illinois for 38 years, retiring in 2010. He attended Schuyler and Brown County schools.
Mr. Ransom was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Mt. Sterling.
Lewis served as a volunteer fireman with the Mt. Sterling Fire Department for over 38 years, having attained the rank of assistant chief. He always loved gardening and especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Judith Ransom of Mt. Sterling. 3 children Kevin Ransom (Karen) of Emerson, Missouri, Kerry Ransom (Melissa) and Kristen Schenk (Allen) all of Mt. Sterling. 7 grandchildren Joshua VanOrder (Brandy) of Emerson, Missouri, Bobbi Morris (Jacob) of LaGrange, Missouri, Alex and Kalvin Schenk and Lydia, Levi and Lane Ransom all of Mt. Sterling. 3 great grandchildren MacKenzie VanOrder and Elizabeth and Anna Morris also survive along with a family friend who became like a daughter, Mary Gross (David) of Ashland, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Richard Young officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling Fire Department.
