Penny Sue Wegs, age 64, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 6:19 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born July 8, 1952 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Robert Lee and Barbara Joan Weaver Welty.  She married Michael E. Wegs on September 20, 1969 in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on November 29, 1996.

Mrs. Wegs was a homemaker and had also worked for the University of Illinois Extension Office in Mt. Sterling for several years.

She graduated from Central High School in Camp Point, Illinois.

Mrs. Wegs was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. 

Penny always enjoyed working in her yard, gardening and canning, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many activities.

Survivors include one son Hank Wegs (Wendy) of Mt. Sterling.  4 grandchildren Lane, Becca, Peyton and Morgan Wegs.  1 brother Jerry Welty of Clayton also survives along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son John Wegs and 1 brother Terry Welty.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Father Steve Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in the Benville Cemetery in Brown County.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer.
