Wayne Newton Logsdon, age 88, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling.
He was born March 18, 1930 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Everette C. “Duffy” and Bernice Robbins Logsdon. He married Greta Nadyne Orr on May 17, 1952 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and she preceded him in death on March 27, 1987. He later married Karen Hardy Phillips on May 18, 1987 in Rushville, Illinois and she preceded him in death on June 27, 2012.
Mr. Logsdon was a lifelong Brown County farmer. Wayne also served on the Board of Directors of the Farmers State Bank and Trust Company in Mt. Sterling for several years.
He attended Brown County Schools and was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Navy.
Wayne always enjoyed golfing and was a member of Rolling Greens Golf Club in Mt. Sterling.
Survivors include 2 daughters Susan Lewis (Mike) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Patty Logsdon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 2 grandchildren Rachel Furrow (Colin) and Matt Lewis. 2 great grandsons Garret Lewis and Brennen Furrow. 1 sister Doris Kleinlein of Quincy, Illinois also survives along with several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister Nancy Tweedt.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Deacon Paul Koch officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery. A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the United State Navy Funeral Honors Detail.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
