Wilma Jean Behymer, age 89, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois went to be with her heavenly father at 10:20 a.m., Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois.
Wilma was born in Brown County on November 10, 1929, a daughter of Merle and Laura Ward. She married LeeRoy Behymer on November 14, 1948 in the Hersman Presbyterian Church, and he survives.
Wilma was a strong Christian and an active member of the Hersman Presbyterian Church where she served as pianist, organist, choir director, youth group leader and Sunday School teacher. Later she was active in the Presbyterian Church of Christ Bible study, circle, deacon, choir member and organist.
For a number of years Wilma was employed by Farmers State Bank and Trust Co. as a bookkeeper and teller. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, square dancing and card playing. Many special memories are of time spent with her children and grandchildren.
After retiring, LeeRoy and Wilma spent a number of winters in Florida where they enjoyed time with a large circle of friends.
Wilma is survived by her husband and four children, Janice (Gary) Westberg of Cairo, Georgia, David (Martha) Behymer of Rushville, Illinois, Charlotte (Deacon Paul) Koch of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Sue (Paul) Henry of Bowen, Illinois, a daughter-in-law Tammy Behymer of Mt. Sterling, Illinois as well as fourteen grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.
Wilma was the oldest of three children. She is survived by two sisters Rita (Harold) Pickinpaugh and Doris (John) Howell all of Quincy, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Terry Behymer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Richard Young and Deacon Paul Koch officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hersman Cemetery in Hersman, Illinois.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Hersman Cemetery Association or the Presbyterian Church of Christ.
