Brenda Kay Sheppard, age 60, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois.
She was born December 21, 1960 in Rushville, Illinois the daughter of Mervin L., Sr. and Glenna Mae Wear Sorrells. She married William R. “Wil” Sheppard in May of 1989 in Mt. Sterling, and he survives.
Brenda served as a corrections counselor for the Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mt. Sterling for 26 years before her retirement.
She graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1979 and then graduated in 1984 from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Brenda was a former member of the local Jaycees and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She truly loved spending time with and attending the many activities of her children, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her husband Wil Sheppard of Mt. Sterling. 2 children Haley Sheppard of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Alex Sheppard (Emily) of Taylor Ridge, Illinois. 1 grandson Ryan Wayne Sheppard. 2 brothers Mervin L. “Butch” Sorrels, Jr. (Dee) and Stephen Sorrells (Bonnie) all of Mt. Sterling. 2 sisters Diane Vermillion (David) and Lora Llewellyn (Bill) all of Mt. Sterling. 1 sister-in-law Monica Sorrells of Petersburg, Illinois also survives along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother Thomas Sorrells and 1 great nephew Elliott Llewellyn.
Cremation will be accorded and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in the Hersman Cemetery with Pastor Daryl Vermillion officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
The state of Illinois has mandated that masks are required for those attending the visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Brown County Public Library.
