Carroll Hedden
Obituary
Mr. Carroll E. Hedden, age 87, of Swansea, Illinois and formerly of Mt.Sterling, Illinois passed away at 10:48 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois.
He was born June 6, 1935 in Canton, Illinois the son of Benjamin Edward and Dottie Pearl Catlett Hedden. He married Dona J. Taylor on October 31, 1975 in Mt. Sterling and she survives.
Mr. Hedden owned and operated Hedden Construction, Plumbing and Heating in Mt. Sterling for over 40 years.
He attended Fulton County Schools and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.
Carroll loved camping and was a member of both the National and Illinois Hikers and Campers Association, a charter member of the Silver Mountain Campers and the Wana-a-Sale Camping Club. He also served as a trustee of Cooperstown Township for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dona Hedden of Swansea, Illinois. 5 children Bruce Hedden (Debbie) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Connie Langan (Tom) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Patsy Buss of Elmwood, Tennessee, Tina Bilzing (Brian) of Swansee, Illinois and Rick Harper (Karen) of Clarksville, Tennessee. A son-in-law, Ed Coats of Rushville, Illinois. 13 grandchildren also survive along with 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers Dorwin ”Salty”, Gordon ”Burnett”, Robert and DeWayne Hedden, 1 daughter Cindy Coats, 1 grandson Jason Hedden and 1 great granddaughter.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Aaron Kuhn and Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery, St. Mary’s School or Brown County Against Cancer.
