Charles Akin, Jr.

Charles J. Akin, Jr., age 85, of Rushville, Illinois passed away at 7:47 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

He was born February 11, 1938 in Pittsfield, Illinois the son of Charles, Sr. and Alene  Burke Akin.  He married Vivian Eileen Jockisch on October 4, 1964 in Rushville, Illinois and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2007.  

Mr. Akin worked for Oscar Mayer in Beardstown, Illinois for 20 years and was also engaged in farming.  Later in life he owned and operated Akin Lawn Care and Clean Up with his son Randy.  

Charles graduated from Perry High School with the class of 1957.  

Mr. Akin was of the Christian faith.  He always enjoyed fishing and truly loved the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

Survivors include 6 children Randy Akin of Rushville, Illinois, Rhonda Randall (Rodney) of Necedah, Wisconsin, Rebecca Fitzjarrald (Mike) of Rushville, Illinois, Regina Akin of Rushville, Illinois, Roxanna Paben (Robert) of Rushville, Illinois and Rachella Wilson (Craig) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois.  One brother Larry Akin of Knoxville, Illinois.  10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson Dylan Fitzjarrald and 1 brother Dean Akin. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Matt Haberman officiating.   Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service live on his obituary page of the funeral home website, hendrickerfuneralhome.com. 

Burial will follow in the Jockisch Cemetery south of Bluff Springs, Illinois. 

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
