Donald Dean Huston, age 88, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 7:05 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville, Illinois.
He was born August 11, 1932 in Cass County, Illinois the son of Irvin and Nelda Traeger Huston. He married Irene Arnett on April 25, 1969 in Rushville, Illinois and she survives.
Mr. Huston worked as a truck driver for over 60 years for several companies, having driven the last 20 years for Dot Foods in Mt. Sterling.
He graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1951.
Mr. Huston was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at both the Lackland Air Force Base and Chanute Air Force Base. He was proud to have served in the military and truly loved the opportunity he had to go on the Great River Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
Don was a member of the Hardin Lodge # 44 A.F. & A.M. in Mt. Sterling and the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374. He always enjoyed raised bed gardening, watching the Chicago Cubs, and woodworking, having made over 250 wooden canes for his fellow lodge and legion members, family and friends. He had also made numerous flag cases, squirrel feeders and bird houses. Don never knew a stranger between New York and California.
Survivors include his wife Irene Huston of Mt. Sterling. 4 sons Dean Huston (Terina) of Rushville, Stephen Huston of Mt. Sterling, Mike Huston (Teri) of Mt. Sterling and Kevin Huston of Rushville. 5 grandsons Danny Huston, Todd Huston, Jeremy Huston (Amanda), Shawn Huston (Kerri) and Cory Huston. 5 granddaughters Courtney Ridgell (Joe), Niki Tuter (Tim), Stacy Zumwalt, Samara Dotzert (Travis) and Dena Lamb (T.J.). 17 great grandchildren also survive along with 1 brother Harold Huston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 great granddaughter, 3 brothers Paul, Gerald and Dorus Huston and 1 sister Valeria Mae Egbert.
All services will be held privately. Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.
