Donald Earl Jennings, age 84, of Mt. Sterling,Illinois passed away at 9:51 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born September 5, 1935 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Herbert and Anna Lucille Christner Jennings. He married Mary Ann Butler on August 24, 1956 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2018.
Mr. Jennings was a partner in Jennings Brothers Sanitation for many years and earlier in life was engaged in farming and had worked for Paul Buckley Auto Parts in Mt. Sterling.
He attended Brown County schools and graduated from Brown County High School.
Mr. Jennings was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling. He was also a member of the Hardin Lodge # 44 A.F. & A.M., a former member of the Kendrick Lodge #430 A.F. & A.M. and a member of ANSAR Shrine.
Survivors include 4 children Beth Kunkel (Charlie Bill) of Hersman, Illinois, Mark Jennings, Sheila Wilson (Mark) and Kim Bowen (Joe) all of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. 11 grandchildren Ranea Kunkel, Courtney Hollingsworth (Matt), Brooke Cokel (Jerame),Nikki Gragg (Luke), Joshua Jennings (Mikayla), Gavin Jennings, Brenna Pherigo (Bill), Alex Wilson, Megan Kunkel (Nathan), Tyler Bowen (Sara) and Garrett Bowen. 8 great grandchildren Olivia, Owen and Oliver Cokel, Ruby and Millie Pherigo, Mason and Ashlyn Kunkel and June Bowen. 1 sister Doris Pasilis of Friendswood, Texas. 1 brother John Jennings, Sr. (Mary Louise) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois also survives along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter in infancy, 1 sister Patricia Ann Jennings and 1 brother Ronald Jennings.
We know that Donald deserves a beautiful tribute and understand that under normal circumstances many friends would love to attend.
But sadly due to the current health situation and under the direction of the local health department the funeral services are to be conducted with only the immediate family members in attendance.
Additional family and friends are encouraged to watch Donald’s services streaming live on the funeral home website at hendrickerfuneralhome.com. The services may be viewed on the website at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2020. There will be no visitation.
Private burial will follow in the Hersman Cemetery.
We also encourage the community to leave a condolence or remembrance for the family on the website.
