Donald Smith

Donald Eugene Smith, age 96, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 4:55 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling. 

He was born August 20, 1923 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Elmer Dean and Gladys Emogene Carroll Smith.  He married Norma Geane Todd on March 13, 1948 in Pittsfield, Illinois and she survives.

Mr. Smith worked for Mt. Sterling Township Road Commissioner for 20 years and had also worked for Brown County Motor Company in Mt. Sterling for 10 years. 

He attended Council School in Brown County and also attended Mt. Sterling Presbyterian Church of Christ. 

Don always enjoyed going to flea markets, toy show and air shows. 

Survivors include his wife, Norma Geane Smith of Mt. Sterling.   Several nieces and nephews including Carl Neaterour of Arkansas, who was raised in his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Marjorie and Mary Joan Smith in infancy and 1 brother William Martin Smith. 

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019 in the Marden Chapel Cemetery in Brown County with Rev. Richard Young officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
