Effie Glaydes Snyder, age 90, a resident of the Beardstown Health & Rehab Center in Beardstown, Illinois, and formerly of Rushville and Mt.Sterling, passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the nursing home.
She was born December 6, 1932 in Huntsville Township of Schuyler County, Illinois the daughter of Ray Jefferson and Blanche Isla Blansett Knight. She married Robert Wayne Snyder on September 16, 1951 in the Cooperstown Christian Church in Brown County and he preceded her in death on November 15, 2002.
Effie always enjoyed assisting her husband with the operation of the family farm and later in life she had also worked for the Rushville Public Library.
She attended Center Grove School in Schuyler County and graduated from Augusta High School with the class of 1950. She then attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois.
Effie was a member of the Cooperstown Christian Church and had also attended the Versailles Christian Church. She served as a 4-H Leader for 10 years, was a member of the Brown County Home Extension, a soybean booster for the Illinois Soybean Association and served on the Brown County Republican Central Committee. Effie simply loved volunteering in her community, including making numerous lap robes and bibs with her sewing friends that they donated to area nursing homes. Effie was proud to have also made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include four children Lois Mann (Michael) of Ellery, Illinois, Charles Snyder (Jeanne) of Mt. Sterling, Ila Watson (David) of Vernon Hills, Illinois and Sybil Phillips of Champaign, Illinois. Eleven grandchildren Phillip Mann (Kathryn Dederichs), Laura Mann, Samantha Snyder (Antoine DeJong), Jessica Snyder (Ian Kenney), Nicole Snyder (Nick Nakamura), Sarah Watson, Michael Watson (Annie), Jonathan Watson, Rachel O’Rourke (Peter), Russell Phillips (Stacy) and Randall Phillips (Jennifer) also survive along with nine great grandchildren Lizzie, Alexzandra, Sabriel, Ryan, River, William, Harper, Tripp and K. J.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Steven Phillips, one brother Glenn Knight and one sister June Patton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastors Nathan Worstell and Tad Sorrells officiating. Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service live on her obituary page of the funeral home website, hendrickerfuneralhome.com.
Burial will follow in the Cooperstown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Children's Hospital or Shiloh Christian Children’s Ranch.
