Eva Lewis

Eva Mae Lewis, age 74, of Mt. Sterling, passed away at 6:53 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois. 

She was born August 22, 1945 in Jacksonville, Illinois the daughter of Loren and Fern Phillips Ballenger.  She married Samuel Lewis on August 26, 1961 at the Chambersburg Christian Church and he survives. 

Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and had also worked at Jacksonville Country Club, Excel in Beardstown, Tate Cheese in Valley City and McDonalds in Mt. Sterling.

She was a lifelong member of the Chambersburg Christian Church.  Eva was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and truly loved listening to Conway Twitty sing.  She always enjoyed cooking, sewing and camping and especially loved the time spent with her family. 

Survivors include her husband Samuel Lewis of Mt. Sterling.  2 children Tammy Lewis of Mt. Sterling and Mark Lewis (Amy) of Liberty, Illinois.  4 grandchildren James Joseph Esela, Jeremy Aaron Esela, Charles Joseph Lewis and Christopher Wesley Lewis.  2 step grandsons Daren Lee Daniels and Dakota Alan Daniels also survive along with several nieces, nephews and her loving dog, Daisy Mae.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters Dorothy Ballenger, Selma Wagner and Violet Lewis. 

We know Eva deserves a beautiful tribute and understand that under normal circumstances, many friends would love to attend.  But sadly due to the current health situation and under the direction of the local health department the funeral services are to be conducted with only the immediate family members in attendance.  Additional family and friends are encouraged to watch Eva’s funeral services streaming live on the funeral home website at hendrickerfuneralhome.com. The services may be viewed on the website at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March  25, 2020. There will be no visitation. 

Private burial will follow in the Hersman Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Chambersburg Christian Church and may be left or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, IL 62353.
