Gary Wayne Jobe, age 73, of Murrayville, Illinois and formerly of Chambersburg, Illinois passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at his residence.
He was born December 30, 1946 in Pike County, Illinois the son of Arthur Lee and Faye Rosezetta Phillips Jobe. He married Edith Mae “Edie” Rigg on February 9, 1968 in Timewell, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 10, 1997.
Gary worked as a mechanic for several years and also served as Chambersburg Road Commissioner until his retirement.
He attended Chambersburg and Meredosia schools.
Mr. Jobe was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served his country in the United States Army.
He attended Chambersburg Christian Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include 2 daughters Brenda Atwood (Kevin) of Murrayville, Illinois and Carrie Laning (Tim) of Versailles, Illinois. 2 brothers Earl Jobe (Freda) of Arkansas and James Jobe (Mary Ann) of Rockford, Illinois. 3 sisters Nettie Jackson of Mt. Sterling, Betty Rigg (Les) of Michigan and Kathy ”Susie” Esterbrook (Dave) of Rockford, Illinois. 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son David Jobe and 1 brother Joe Dean Jobe.
We know that Gary deserves a beautiful tribute and understand that under normal circumstances many friends would love to attend. But sadly due to the current health situation and under the direction of the local health department, the services are to be conducted with only immediate family members in attendance.

Burial will follow in the Hersman Cemetery. A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.
Memorials are suggested to the family and may be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, IL 62353.
We also encourage the community to leave a condolence or remembrance on the website for the family.
There will be no visitation.
