Ivagene Quinn Obituary

Lois Ivagene Quinn, 95, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, went to be with her Lord Jesus 10:57 A.M. Wednesday, October 6th 2021 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois.

Ivagene was born September, 17th 1926 in rural Camden, the daughter of George and Beulah (Gabbert) Richardson.

She married Ark Quinn, Jr. September 26, 1948 at the Camden United Methodist Church. They had three children: Michael Kent, Douglas Ark, and Sandra Jean.

She attended school in rural Camden, and rode a horse to school. She later moved to Rushville to attend school, and stayed with family friends to do so. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1944. Her nickname in high school was “Blondie.”

After graduation, she worked as a secretary in the war munitions plant in Galesburg. She was able to eat her lunch at the board room table, which amused her.

Her greatest aspiration in life was to create window displays at J.C. Penneys. After graduating from Gem City Business College, she did just that. In her later life, she worked for the U.S.D.A.’s A.S.C.S. office  and retired there after almost 34 years.

Her whole life she was a devoted member of Cooperstown Christian Church. She organized events, and always helped with revivals, fellowships, vacation Bible school, or funerals. Her faith was deep, and she read her Bible many times over. She learned to play piano and organ, and she did so for church services.

In her spare time, she loved raising horses, and tending her flower and vegetable garden. Particularly, she loved roses, amaryllis, sunflowers, daisies, and snapdragons. Flowers drew hummingbirds, which she delighted in. She was delighted her gardening won Brown County Yard of the Month. She did not, however, care for cats. She was also a proficient baker, and every member of her family enjoyed thinking of new ways to sneak sweets she had made. Her noodles were a special family treat for special meals.

She participated in Senior Olympics, and medaled in Horseshoes and Bowling.

The other great love in her life was bowling. She bowled seemingly everywhere that had a lane--and was a member of the Pike County Bowling League. She was noted as being the oldest woman in the League. She was happy with a score of 300 in a Nine-pin tournament.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Beulah, her sisters Mildred Cox and Arlene Estes, her husband Ark, her son Michael, her daughter in law Marilyn and their baby-to-be. That wound persisted.

She is survived by her children Douglas Quinn, of Clayton, and Sandra Walker (spouse Chuck) of Chambersburg; grandchildren Deanne Quinn (fiance Ty Cromie) of Clayton, Patrick R. Walker (spouse Rosanna) of Buffalo, Sarah Myers (spouse Shawn) of Auburn, Dacia Johnson (Quinn, spouse Jason) of Clayton, and Katelyn Walker (fiance Collin Bradford) of Springfield; great-grandchildren Charlotte Myers of Auburn, Wren Walker of Buffalo, and Marshall Walker of Buffalo.
