Jack Logsdon

Jack Lee Logsdon, age 88, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 7:35 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2020 at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville, Illinois. 

He was born October 25, 1931 in Ashland, Illinois the son of Edward M. and Emma Lucille Peacock Logsdon.  He married Eleanor Wagner on October 21, 1950 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and she survives.  On August 3, 1961 Jack and Eleanor adopted a family of 4 children Terina, Wendy, Joe and Rob, that they loved and cared for as their own. 

Earlier in life Jack was engaged in farming and then worked for both the Brown County Highway Department and the State of Illinois Department of Transportation.  He along with his wife owned and operated Sports Lanes bowling alley in Mt. Sterling for over 20 years and he also served as Mt. Sterling Township Road Commissioner for several terms before retiring. 

Mr. Logsdon was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.   Jack always loved golfing and was a charter member of the Rolling Greens Golf Club in Mt. Sterling.  He was especially proud of the fact that he had 4 holes in one during his lifetime.  He was known as an excellent bowler and truly enjoyed playing pool with his friends at Cecil’s pool hall.  Jack also assisted in maintaining the track at the Brown County Fair for many years.     

Survivors include his wife Eleanor Logsdon of Mt. Sterling.   4 children Terina Huston (Dean) of Rushville, Illinois, Joe Logsdon (Teresa) of Colchester, Illinois, Rob Logsdon of Quincy, Illinois and Mike Logsdon (Amy) of Petersburg, Illinois.  1 sister Peggy Wellman of Quincy, Illinois.  12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter Wendy Garwood, 1 grandson James Garwood, a sister Belle Dose and a brother Jay Edward Logsdon.  

Private funeral services with only the family attending will be held in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating.  Friends are able to watch Jack’s services streaming live at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 on the funeral home website at hendrickerfuneralhome.com. 

Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery. 

An informal visitation without the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020 at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.

Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Catholic Church or the Schuyler County Humane Society.
