Jason Daniel Volk, age 48, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 8th, 2023 at his residence.
Jason was born November 4, 1974 in Rushville, Illinois the son of Daniel Louis and Shari Diane Brown Volk. After Jason graduated from Brown County High School in 1993 he left for basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky to begin his 13 year career in the United States Army. Jason served our country from September 8, 1993 until January 24, 2007. While in the Army he was a tank commander/gunner in Fort Stewart, Georgia, and air traffic controller instructor in Korea, a SGT in Fort Carson, Colorado and served in Fort Rucker, Alabama, Kosovo and Wuerzburg, Germany. While obtaining several awards and certificates he ended his military career as an E6.
On July 22, 1999, Jason was raised to Master Mason at Hands Across The Main Lodge #879, United Grand Lodge of Germany in Kitzingen, Germany and later became a member of the Hardin Lodge # 44 A.F. & A.M. in Mt. Sterling. He was also a member of the Quincy Consistory.
Jason began his lineman career with Prairie Power in Jacksonville, Illinois in May of 2008 until 2021.
Jason was very proud of each of his children. Brandon and Landon Volk, children of former wife, Stacey Volk of Mt. Sterling. Haley Rode of Ohio and Ava Ashcraft, daughter of former wife Michelle Volk of Mt. Sterling.
Jason mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He joked around a lot and loved to have a good time.
Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Shari Volk.
He is survived by his father Dan Volk, sisters Kari Terry (Brian) of Mt. Sterling, Dani Perry of Frederick and Ryan Volk (Chinny) of Meredosia. Jason also had several nieces and nephews he adored spoiling; Jordan and his family Tasha, Jax, Jayda, Jensen and Joel. Dani and her family, Kristen, Kylie and Leighton. Tori and her son Emmett of Mt. Sterling and Trey, McKenzee and Bo Perry all of Frederick.
Cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 13th , 2023 in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery with Father Aaron Kuhn officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
The Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling is assisting the family with the arrangements.
