John Roy Zorn, age 90, of Springfield, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 10:48 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Mr. Zorn was born in Fond du Lac County in Wisconsin on June 3, 1929 the son of Elva Jeanne Cook Zorn. He moved to Mt. Sterling during 1931. Mr. Zorn graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1947.
Mr. Zorn entered the United States Air Force in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a Korean War veteran serving two years in Japan and Korea, during July, 1950 until September, 1952.
Mr. Zorn attended Quincy College, University of Illinois and Western Illinois University. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Business Education in 1955. He went on to graduate school and graduated with masters’ degrees in Guidance and Testing, Business Education and Public School Administration. Mr. Zorn worked for General Motors, Borg Warner Corporation, SRA-IBM, taught at Gladstone-Oquawka High School, graduate instructor at Western Illinois University, Principal/teacher at Oquawka Elementary/Jr. High School and worked for twenty years with the Illinois State Board of Education.
Survivors include 1 daughter Zoe Zorn, 1 son J. Scot Zorn both of Springfield, Illinois and 1 granddaughter, Heather.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 29th, 2019 in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Paul Koch officiating. Military services will be conducted at the graveside by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post # 374.
There will be no visitation.
