Judy Meats

Judy Meats, age 75, of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Timber Point Healthcare Center in Camp Point, Illinois.

She was born June 30, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of W. Wayne and Lorna Adele Thayer Kendall.  

Judy attended 1st and 2nd grade at Bryant Elementary School in Cleveland, Ohio, 3rd - 6th grade at Hayes Elementary School in Lakewood, Ohio, Jr. High at Harding School in Lakewood and graduated from Lakewood High School with the class of 1964. She attended Hiram College and received a BA in education in 1968, and then attended grad school at Ball State University where she received her masters degree in deaf special education in 1969.     After receiving her degree she taught at the Illinois School for the Deaf until 1971.    Judy married Michael Terry Meats on December 29, 1971 in Lakewood, Ohio and to this union 4 sons were born.  They moved to Zirndorf, Germany and lived there until 1973 when they moved to Alexander, Illinois where Judy returned to the Illinois School for the Deaf and taught there until 1977 when her son Justin was born.  She continued her teaching career having homeschooled her 4 sons through high school.  

Judy was very active with her family in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and earlier in life she was a member of the girls scouts at the district and council levels.  She was also active in the music ministry of Quincy Cursillo and Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling where she enjoyed playing the guitar. 

Survivors include 4 sons Justin Meats (Erin) of Columbus, Ohio, Morgan Meats (Rachel) of Casper, Wyoming, Jonathan Meats (Andrea) of Morrison, Colorado and Christopher Meats (Carlyn) of Loraine, Illinois.  13 grandchildren Katlyn, Ella, Isaac, Haley, Elizabeth, Emily, Andrew, Jamie, Aspen, Ashton, Christy, Coraly and Canaan Meats also survive. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.  

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Steven Arisman and Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Hendricker Funeral  Home in Mt. Sterling.  A rosary service will be conducted at the conclusion of the visitation.
