Kenneth L. Lercher, age 79, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born June 7, 1938 in Lincoln, Illinois the son of Earl C. and Alta L. Fuiten Lercher. He married Patricia A. (Wegs) King on November 19, 1982 in Keokuk, Iowa and she survives.
After graduation from Lincoln High School, Mr. Lercher served in the United States Army from July 10, 1958 until February 7, 1962. Kenny was employed with the Formfit Company in Lincoln and later in Monmouth, Illinois where he also was then assistant manager of Meling’s Restaurant and Lounge. After moving to Mt. Sterling, he worked at Mt. Sterling IGA for over 35 years, first as produce manager and later as night manager. Mr. Lercher was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. Kenny’s primary hobbies were bowling, golf and most of all being an avid Chicago Cub Fan, who took great pride in having seen his beloved Cubs win the World Series in 2016.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Lercher of Mt. Sterling. 2 step sons Marvin L. King of the Dallas, Texas area and Ronald F. King (Kim) of Germantown Hills, Illinois. 3 step grandchildren Sarah Raymer (Vail) of Temecula, California, Doug King (Andrea) of Nashville, Tennessee and Stacey Rohman (Ryan) of Metamora, Illinois. 5 step great grandchildren Tyler and Madalyn Raymer, Lucy and Emma King and Wade Rohman. 1 sister Melba Patterson of Decatur, Illinois and 1 brother John Lercher (Cheryl) of Decatur, Illinois also survives along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Lercher and 3 brothers in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery. A military service will be conducted as the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
Friends may call any time after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday with the family meeting friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s School or the charity of the donor’s choice.
