Lawrence Harrison Wiese, age 87, of rural Versailles, Illinois passed away at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, December 24, 2020 at his residence.
He was born January 31, 1933 in Nashville, Illinois the son of George H. and Clara L. Diedrich Wiese. He married Betty Ann Bear on January 26, 1958 in the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling and she survives.
Mr. Wiese was a lifelong Brown and Pike County farmer and was also engaged in farming in Washington County in Otis, Colorado.
He attended Brown County rural schools, Versailles School and graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1950.
Mr. Wiese served his country in the United States Army and United States Army Reserves from 1953 until 1961.
He attended the Versailles Christian Church. Lawrence served on the Schuyler-Brown FS Board, served as a commissioner of the McGee Drainage District and as a Versailles Township Trustee. Lawrence was also a longtime member of the Brown County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wiese of Versailles. 2 children Larry (Mary) and Lori all of Versailles. 4 grandchildren Landon (Fiancee, Nicole), Caitlen (Derek) Logan (Katie) and Laken. 3 great grandchildren Kale, Dane, Devin and he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his 4th great grandchild in July. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive including Bill and Jan Wiese.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother in infancy.
We know that Lawrence deserves a beautiful tribute and understand that under normal circumstances many friends would love to attend. But sadly due to the current health situation and under the direction of the local health department, the services are to be conducted with only immediate family members in attendance.
Friends are encouraged to watch Lawrence’s services streaming live at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020 on the funeral home website at hendrickerfuneralhome.com.
Burial will follow in the Hersman Cemetery. A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.
We also encourage the community to leave a condolence or remembrance on the website for the family.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Versailles Christian Church and may be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, IL 62353.
