Margaret “Peggy” Jonas (nee Dempsey) passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Mt. Sterling, Illinois on August 17, 2021. Preceded in death by her husband John “Jerry”. Beloved mother to Katie (Matt) Haskamp of Mariemont and Annie (John) Hill of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Devoted and adored grandmother of Maggie, Lindsey and Trevor Moore, Parker Hill, Julianne and Emily Haskamp. Great grandmother to Gabe Buskirk.
Peggy is preceded in death by her mother June Ann (Nee Held), father Joseph Matthew Dempsey and brother Jeremiah “Bill” Dempsey; mother-in-law Mary Lorraine and John William Jonas, Sr. She is survived by brothers Mike (Joan), Dan (Jenny), John and Matt (Teresa). Sister to Eileen (Wayne) Dempsey. Sister-in-law to Joy (Bill) Dempsey.
She is survived by many in-laws and nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong resident of Cincinnati prior to residing with her daughter to better care for her in August, 2020.
Peggy loved playing softball as pitcher for The Junebugs. She enjoyed any reason to celebrate and the outdoors. Peggy immersed herself in culture; literature, art and theater, but her steadfast passion was music. Most of all, she enjoyed sharing those activities with beloved family. Her most cherished role was grandmother.
Peggy is a graduate of St. Mary School, Marian High School and Mount St. Joseph College. Peggy was a devoted stay at home mother to her children until they reached middle school age, at which time she returned to her profession of social work for Hamilton County Job and Family Services for 23 years.
Visitation will be held at Geo. H. Rohde & Son Funeral Home, 3183 Linwood Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45208 on Thursday, August 26th from 5-7 p.m. Complimentary valet parking provided.
Catholic Mass on Friday, August 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Procession to Gate of Heaven Cemetery. All are invited to a luncheon immediately following at Ivy Hills Country Club.
