Marian Elbus

Mrs. Marian F. Elbus, age 96, a resident of Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 9:43 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the nursing home.  

She was born May 10, 1924 in Highland, Illinois the daughter of Emil Michael and Laura Julia Knebel Frisse.  She married Cyril A. Elbus on February 12, 1949 in Highland, Illinois and he preceded her in death on June 26, 1988. 

Mrs. Elbus was a homemaker and earlier in life she had worked as a secretary.  

She graduated from St. Paul School in Highland, Illinois and then graduated from Brown’s Business and Secretarial School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1943.  

Mrs. Elbus was a devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling where she served on the Altar Society and sang in the church choir.  

Survivors include 2 sons Carl Elbus of Fowler, Illinois and Mark Elbus (Rose) of Kewanee, Illinois.  1 sister Wilma Tabor of Marine, Illinois.  5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister Rita Barth and her twin brother in infancy. 

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Aaron Kuhn officiating. 

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.  

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. 

Social distancing guidelines will be observed and there will be a limit of 50 visitors at any one time.  With the current health concerns, non-physical expressions of condolence are suggested.  Please consider refraining from hugs and handshakes, but know that your presence is greatly appreciated. 

Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
