Marjorie Mary Salrin, age 91, of rural Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020 at her residence.
She was born August 8, 1928 in Adams County, Illinois the daughter of Frank and Kathryn Ebbing Elbus. She married Richard Julian Salrin on April 6, 1948 in Brown County, Illinois and he preceded her in death on May 5, 1995.
Mrs. Salrin was a homemaker and also served as the multi township assessor for 12 years.
She attended Bell School and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Mt. Sterling with the class of 1946.
Mrs. Salrin was a devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling where she served her church in numerous capacities including being a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Holy Family Women’s Guild. Marjorie was also an active member of the Brown County Democrat Women. She always enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, playing cards and was a member of several card clubs. Marjorie truly loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include 4 children Thomas R. Salrin of Tipton, Iowa, Daniel F. Salrin of Peoria, Illinois, Kathleen Root (Robert) of Avon, Indiana and Emily Morris (Charles) of Coatesville, Indiana. 11 grandchildren Christopher Salrin (Dayla), Jennifer Salrin (Steven Collier), Melissa Salrin (Jamie Warren), Suzanne Thomas (Brenton), Eric Salrin, Mark Salrin (Kim), David Salrin (Katie) Michele Pinkerton (Ryan), Jessica Arnes (Justin), Michael Morris and Janelle Morris. 18 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews. Marjorie was anxiously awaiting the arrival of 2 more great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister Helen Koch, 1 brother Cletus Elbus, 1 daughter-in-law Mary Salrin and 1 great grandson Eli Thomas.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2020 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Aaron Kuhn officiating.
The funeral mass will be broadcast live on her obituary page of the funeral home website for those unable to attend.
Social distancing guidelines will be observed and the family requests face masks to be worn. With the current health concerns, non-physical expressions of condolence are suggested. Please consider refraining from hugs and handshakes, but know that your presence is greatly appreciated.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
