Mary Elizabeth Klingele Ahmed, age 77, of Las Vegas, Nevada and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Infinity Hospice Care in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was born February 14, 1945 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Cletus Norbert and Regina Irene Geisler Klingele. She married Nazeer Ahmed on August 17, 1974 in St. Louis, Missouri and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2022.
Mary worked as a medical technologist for Quest Diagnostics in Las Vegas, Nevada for 24 years before retiring.
She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Mt. Sterling with the class of 1963. Mary then graduated from Quincy College in 1967 with a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology and later earned her Master's Degree in Microbiology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mrs. Ahmed was of the Christian Faith and always enjoyed watching the Timewell Baptist Church services online.
Mary loved to travel with her sister and friends. She particularly loved the ocean, the redwood forest, and state parks in California and Utah. She also enjoyed volunteering and helping people with shopping and doctor visits and had a passion for stamping and making cards for family and friends. Mary was a longtime Avon representative. She also liked to share her knowledge, sell essential oils and visit her gym, Curves.
Survivors include 1 brother William “Bill” Klingele of Joliet, Illinois. 1 sister Kathi Klingele of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and 1 niece Dawn Rubio (Lencho) of North Riverside, Illinois.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Dale Gadberry officiating. Those unable to attend are invited to watch Mary’s funeral service live on her obituary page of the funeral home website hendrickerfuneralhome.com.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
