Maryann Yeakel Obituary

 

Maryann Jane Yeakel, age 81, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 7:54 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. 

She was born April 23, 1941 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois the daughter of Ralph Walter and Alice Louise Howard Buss.  She married John Thomas Yeakel on December 29, 1962 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2021.

Mrs. Yeakel worked for Brown County State Bank in Mt. Sterling for over 30 years, retiring as Vice President in 2000.  

She graduated from Brown County High School and had also attended John Wood Community College. 

Mrs. Yeakel was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, where she was also a member of the Holy Family Women’s Guild.  Maryann was an avid Illini, Chicago Cubs and horse racing fan.  She always enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and was known for her wonderful angel food cakes, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Survivors include 5 children April Ann Cline (Rob) of Timewell, Illinois, Dorothy Louise Moore (Dean) of Camp Point, Illinois, Carl Douglas Yeakel (Crissy) of West Monroe, Louisiana, Barbara Jean Yeakel of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Ralph Jonathan Yeakel (Raini Jo) of Cooperstown, Illinois.  15 grandchildren Morgan Schone (John), Garrett Cline (Callie Grace), Logan Cline, Ashley Cline (fiancee, Austin Roughton), Logan Moore (Chesney), Landon Moore, Olivia Moore, Amanda Dodgen (John), Abel Thomas Yeakel, Carla Yeakel, Rayna Yeakel, Rebecca Yeakel, Rachael Yeakel, Rita Yeakel and Reagan Yeakel.   2 great grandchildren Sean Dodgen and Teagan Cline, with the arrival of 2 more great grandchildren coming soon.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters Jeanette Flynn, Barbara Langan, Harriett “Jean” Carpenter and Dolores Sides and 1 brother John Buss. 

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Aaron Kuhn and Deacon Mike Ellerman officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia, Illinois. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. 

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer or Brown County Public Library.
