Minnie L. Ross, age 99, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 5:31 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois.
She was born March 13, 1922 in Pea Ridge Township of Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Isaac and Mary Elizabeth Phillips Davis. She married George Lyle Ross on December 21, 1940 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1984.
Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and also worked at Klines Department Store in Jacksonville, Illinois for several years, until retiring.
She attended Clayton, Illinois schools. Minnie was of the Christian faith and earlier in life attended the Benville Union Church in Brown County and she also attended the Church of God in Clayton, Illinois.
Minnie enjoyed solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing scrabble, watching game shows, wrestling and roller derby on tv and listening to country music, but her greatest joy was visiting with neighbors and friends.
Survivors include 1 daughter Janet Williams of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. 7 grandchildren Danny Jones, Curt Ross, Casey Ross, Diana Bussone, Donna Huffman, Susan Towery and Lori Williams. 15 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and 1 brother Cecil Davis of Quincy, Illinois also survives along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Alan L. Ross, 1 daughter Mary Herron and 1 great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Matt Haberman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Benville Cemetery in Brown County.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
