Norma Grenlund

March 25, 1939 ~ July 2, 2023 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Norma Jean Grenlund, age 84, of Rushville, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois went to be with her Lord and Savior and her loving husband of fifty three years at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, July 2, 2023 at her residence.

Norma was born to Robert E. and Katherine E. Brever Chilson on March 25, 1939 in Harvard, Illinois.  Norma attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Harvard High School with the class of 1957.  Upon graduation she attended Rockford School of Business obtaining an executive secretarial degree.

On August 8, 1959, Norma married Donald Leroy Grenlund at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Harvard, Illinois and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2012.

Norma worked at Admiral Corporation until they closed and then worked various jobs.  In 1961, her husband was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia and then to Miami, Florida for thirteen years.  Returning to Rushville, Illinois in 1979, she worked for Illinois Laborers and Contractors Training Program for eighteen years and then started a new phase of her life as a medical transcriptionist for Quincy Medical Group and then later at Blessing Hospital with a special privilege to be able to work at her home as a transcriptionist.  She felt truly blessed to be able to stay at home with her husband and work there.    Following the death of her husband she moved to Rushville, Illinois after living twenty five years in Mt. Sterling.

As Norma reached the age of 74 she decided it was time to retire, which was a very happy decision for her.  Norma enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting and especially seeing her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a member of the Timewell Baptist Church.

Norma is survived by her four sons; Robert Edward Grenlund (Lonna) of Rushville, Illinois, David Michael Grenlund (Christine) of Sharon, Wisconsin, Joseph Scott Grenlund (Tim) of Cape Coral, Florida and Richard Shawn Grenlund (Kris) of Timewell, Illinois.  Five grandchildren and one step grandchild also survives along with several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a step granddaughter, Kayla Boyd, one grandson Derek Grenlund, one great granddaughter Olivia Anderson and a brother, Robert Chilson.
