Priscilla Morath Obituary

Mary Priscilla Morath, age 98, a resident of Liberty Village in Pittsfield, Illinois and formerly of Chambersburg, passed away at 2:55 a.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the nursing home.

Priscilla was born September 13, 1925 in rural Versailles, Illinois the daughter of Roland and Sybil Irene Cole Walsh.  She graduated from Chambersburg High School and then married John Lee Morath on May 9, 1943.  John and Priscilla Morath had three children all of whom survive:  Connie Ross Myers (Carl) of Chambersburg, Illinois, Beverly Campbell of Normal, Illinois and Vincent Morath (Mary) of Roanoke, Virginia.  Surviving also are two grandchildren Erin Phillips (Leizel) of California and Melinda Holt (Donnie) of Missouri,  two great granddaughters Aubrey and Ella Rose, four step grandchildren Thomas John Ross, David Ross, Jeanine Harrah and John Maynard along with several step great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers Thomas Richard Walsh and Robert Eugene Walsh.

John and Priscilla spent their lives farming in Versailles, Pittsfield and finally in Chambersburg.  They retired in 1976 and moved into town in Chambersburg.  John passed away on March 22, 1992.  Priscilla was a devoted farmer’s wife working side by side with John in all aspects of farm life.  She was a meticulous homemaker and a wonderful cook.

Her favorite things in life were watching the birds, listening to country music, collecting chicken knick knacks, gardening and growing flowers.  Her well manicured yard bursting with beautiful blooms gave her great joy.  She often said, “When I can no longer plant flowers, you might as well plant me.”

Priscilla had a quiet faith in God.  Her favorite place of worship was at the chapel in LaGrange.  She dearly loved going to the little house of God.  Priscilla’s greatest love was her family, then her home and her country.  She also took pride in planting flags in her yard.  Priscilla was a great inspiration and prayer warrior for her children and they will miss her so very much.  She also greatly appreciated her neighbor friends.    This world was a better place when this pillar of strength was with us.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
