Randall Scott Hester, age 72, of Mt. Sterling,Illinois passed away at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois.
He was born February 15, 1951 in Macomb, Illinois the son of Thomas Claire and Mary Regina Mae Roate Hester. He married Charlotte M. Reed on March 16, 1974 in the Versailles Christian Church, and she survives.
Mr. Hester was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served his country in the United States Army. Randall truly enjoyed visiting with the many Vietnam veterans from the area that served in the Mekong Delta. He went on to serve in the Illinois National Guard for 25 years having obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. He graduated from Brown County High School and also attended John Wood Community College.
Mr. Hester was very dedicated to his community having helped start the Versailles Activity Group for the youth of the village. He was also instrumental in establishing the Brown County Quilts of Valor which honored several local veterans. Randall was of the Catholic faith. He always enjoyed hunting and especially loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte Hester of Mt. Sterling. 2 children Lisa Barfield (Ed) of Mt. Sterling and Randall T. Hester (Shannon) of Versailles. 8 grandchildren Erika Morris (Andy), Lance Barfield, Erin Barfield, Landon Barfield, Josie Riley, Fletcher Riley, Felix Hester and Mylo Hester. 1 brother Maurice Ray Hester (Jacqueline) of Versailles. 3 sisters Rosemary Jackson of West Point, Sandra Diane Perry (Gary) of Meredosia and Debra Gayle Davidson of Versailles also survive along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Claire Eugene Hester and 1 sister Laura Grace Vose.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2023 in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery with Father Aaron Kuhn officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
